You’ll usually return to camp just before noon for a hearty brunch. The balance of the day is yours to enjoy as you please. The valley gets warm in the midday sun, making this a good time to chill with a book, binoculars, or both. As the afternoon sun fades, you’ll head out again—either on foot, in a vehicle or a combination of both—returning to camp after dark for dinner. One can’t talk about a true African safari without mentioning the time-honored tradition of the “sundowner.” As its name implies, once the sun starts dipping down for the night, your guide will find a spot to park and then magically produce ice-cold cocktails, beer, wine or soft drinks and an array of tasty snacks.
