Imagine stepping into a fiberglass container that is not much wider than you are. Next you adjust and lock the 5-pint harness that firmly holds you into your seat. The canopy closes and it is transparent so you can see all around you unrestricted. Then comes the click as a tow rope is attached to your vessel. You can hear the engine of the tow plane 200 feet in front of you rev up. The roar gets louder and you begin to roll down the runway. Pretty soon the bumps are gone and you are supported by air rather than the runway turf and then the tow plane lifts off. Now it is formation flight 200 feet behind the tow plane until we get to altitude. Depending on the day we may go up about 1/2 to 1 mile high. When you hear the rope mechanism click again, we are free. The tow plane turns to the left and leaves us behind. We are now sailing like on a lake except it is in 3 dimensions. It is the vertical component that takes it out of the ordinary and oh so interesting. For the next several minutes we sail through the air like a bird. We may find a thermal and have a hawk or an eagle join us in  taking advantage of the gift of lift that mother nature sometimes provides. Eventually we descend back to a Terra Firma and with a little luck..we.end our flight right back on the runway where we began.
