Visit Georgetown in Washington, D.C. for the Annual Georgetown Garden Club Tour and stay two nights in a five-star hotel located in Georgetown or Washington West End with two to four guests on May 11-13, 2018. Hotel stay will be at the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton Georgetown, depending on availability. Itinerary for the weekend: Friday, May 11, 2018: Arrive in Washington for a private escorted tour of Tudor Place, a historic house and gardens in the middle of Georgetown. Tudor Place was the home of Martha and George Washington's granddaughter, Martha Parke Custis Peter. The house was designed by William Thornton, the architect of the U.S. Capitol and completed in 1817. The Peter family occupied the property from 1817 to 1987 when the property was conveyed to the Tudor Place Foundation and open to the public. In addition to the tour of the mansion, which contains the most extensive collection of Washington family items outside of Mount Vernon, guests will also be escorted through the classic English gardens. Saturday, May 12, 2018: Guests will be escorted on the Annual Garden Tour by a member of the Georgetown Garden Club. In addition to the ten gardens featured on the tour, members of the club will open a select number of private gardens to the guests, including a garden on O Street in Georgetown (included in the Smithsonian Institution's Archives of American Gardens). The tour also includes lunch and an afternoon tea at Christ Church, Georgetown, a historic church founded by Francis Scott Key, among other notable figures of the early American Republic. The church is celebrating its 200th anniversary. To the extent time remains on either day, and the wishes of the participants, private escorted tours of the National Cathedral and its gardens, and historic Oak Hill Cemetery will be added to the itinerary. At Oak Hill, the tour would focus on the grave site of President Lincoln's son, Willie, as recently featured in the novel, Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Sanders.
