Seema Bhattacharjee is a NJ based artist who was born and raised in India. She is a computer engineer by profession, but drawing and painting have been her passion since childhood. Seema has taken courses on drawing fundamentals from renowned instructors from NJ, including several at the West Windsor Arts Center. Seema mainly uses acrylic or watercolor as her medium. Her post-impressionistic style reflects her direct life experience and her feelings or emotions attached to it. She is an avid reader and loves poetry, which is a source of inspiration to many of her paintings. Strong composition, visual texture, bold use of color and trusting her emotions are just some of the elements that she applies in creating her expressive works.

Based in Hopewell, NJ, Marissa Blossom is a nature-inspired painter who works primarily in oil pastel. In 2014, Marissa graduated from Principia College with a B.A. in art and has pursued her art career in earnest since the beginning of 2018. Inspired by local land and sky-scapes as well as those in her travels, Marissa paints to honor her connection with the natural world. Jim Carvalho was raised in Bordentown, NJ and currently resides in West Windsor. Jim is a relative newcomer to the art world. A graduate of Trenton State College with a degree in Industrial Arts, he pursued a career in law enforcement, retiring in 2009 after twenty six years of service. After retirement, Jim began to work for a local school district where he became exposed to young artists in the classroom setting, which ignited his passion for art. Spring Promise
Kimberly Ducoté-Schimmel’s artwork uses painting and photography. She received a B.S. in Studio Art from Stony Brook and immediately started her career as a commercial photographer. She has photographed for major corporations, advertising agencies and editorial publications. Knife Thrower
Aylin Green is the Executive Director of the West Windsor Arts Council. She is also a fine artist and has exhibited her mixed media paintings and cast metal sculpture at galleries and art centers throughout the region. Aylin earned a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers and a MA Ed from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. James Hickey is an abstract artist and photographer based in Mercer County, NJ. For over 5 years he has been sharpening his skills using mixed media with a concentration on alcohol markers and inks. Through Jim’s difficult experiences of great personal tragedy and trauma, he discovered a talent that laid dormant for years. Drawing became an outlet, a passion, and a spiritual path. Lori Langsner is a resident of West Windsor and teaching artist at the West Windsor Arts Center. Lori recently retired as an arts educator in the NYC Public Schools and has now put her personal focus back on oil painting “en plein air” surrounding herself with her love of nature and incorporating the sights in and around Mercer County. Lori has an MA in Special Education from Brooklyn College, a B.A. in Art Education from Queens College. She has continued her studies at the Art Students League, among others. Kathleen Hurley Liao is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University with a BA in Anthropology. As such, she has absorbed and been inspired by the art of many cultures. Bruce Lindsay is a professional sculptor and educator based in Trenton, NJ. A graduate of Bucknell University, he has been actively creating sculpture in cast metals and glass for over thirty years. Bruce has exhibited at Montclair Art Museum, Audubon Artists in NYC, Trenton City Museum, and elsewhere. In 2006 his “United States War Dogs Memorial, State of NJ” was dedicated in Holmdel, NJ. Eleni Litt is an artist-teacher who tells a story or expresses a feeling with line, color, and form. Daniel Luchansky has been interested in mathematical art, in forms such as the Mandelbrot set, since he was a young child. Humming in the Spring
Aarti Mantri is a freelance artist in acrylic and mixed media paintings based in NJ. Art has always been a part of her since childhood; she was inspired and encouraged by her mother who is an artist in India. She is an Interior Designer and worked for over 5 years in the field, specializing in stained glass and landscaping. Nonetheless, her passion for fine arts forced her to pursue a career as a painter. Susan Mitrano is a certified K-12 Art Teacher in NJ. A West Windsor native, she has a BFA from Syracuse University in graphic design. Anika Mittal was born and raised in India where her post graduate diploma was in Textile Designing, helping her to develop an understanding of colors and design patterns. When she started experimenting with ancient Indian art techniques like Bandhni and Batik, she developed a real passion for water-based colors and paintings and use of organic colors. A natural progression was toward Indian folk paintings in the Warli and Madhubani styles. When she moved to US, she started experimenting with oil and acrylic paintings. Anna Neis is an artist, educator and lecturer. Neis is a representational artist of contemporary myth working in a classical realist tradition. She holds MFA degrees from Moscow Art Academy and New York Academy of Art. With over 20 years teaching experience, Neis founded Gemma Art Foundation in 2005. Gemma Art Foundation was a non-profit educational institution dedicated to the education and promotion of fine arts and has now evolved into Princeton Academy of Art. Winter Setting
Pratibha Raju is an artist and a visual art teacher at the West Windsor Arts Center. She grew up and studied in India where she received a BFA in Painting in 1998. Since then she has been practicing and teaching painting in different styles. She has worked in many different schools, including St. Paul`s English School and Oakridge International School, India and Hindi USA in Piscataway. Recently, she has been working on an Indian art form from the 16th century called the Mysore Traditional, which she learned from her father S. Krishnananda Raju and grandfather Y.Subramanya Raju, who was the Palace artist in the Mysore Kingdom. These paintings are done with watercolors and have a unique technique, which involves using pure gold on the painting. Pratibha also works on figurative compositions and is presently working on landscapes in oils and watercolors in an attempt to capture the zest of Nature. She has exhibited her paintings at libraries in Long Island NY and Piscataway NJ.

Lucia Stout Huebner works in oils, pastel, watercolor and walnut ink. Last year her work was exhibited at the Trenton Museum at Ellarslie Open Juried Art Show, the Pastel Society of NJ (where her piece won a Dick Blick prize), the Garden State Watercolor Society and she had two one person exhibitions. A decade ago, Lucia started free community time for artists to paint together in the restored Hopewell Train Station. A Thin Red Line
Katie Truk received her BFA from Alfred University. She has been teaching multi-media classes for children and adults of all ages and levels since 2001 through personal lessons, visiting artist grants, and at art centers such as the West Windsor Arts Center, the Visual Arts Center of NJ, and Leaping Dog Art Studio. In her studio, the medium of choice is pantyhose. She combines the translucent and sensual nature of pantyhose and the rigidity of wire to create sculptures of complex depth and personality. Barbara Weinfield has studied painting with Pietro Smith, John Murdoch, and currently with Zakia Ahmed (since 2013). Her most recent solo show, Time and Place, was in July 2018 at the West Windsor Public Library. In 2017, her solo exhibition, Portraits of NJ, was held at the Trenton Free Public Library, and was also included in the city-wide “Art All Day” Tour in November 2017. Her works have also appeared in several group exhibitions at the West Windsor Arts Council and with the Zakia Art Alliance.

Window into my Soul
Priscilla Snow Algava’s work is about layers of time and memory. Priscilla’s aim is to create visual poems that ask the viewer to imagine, to wonder and wander along with her. As an art educator, Priscilla has imparted the joy of artmaking to students of the West Windsor Arts Center, South Brunswick High School, DePauw University, Marist College, and at museums and institutions in the U.S. and abroad. Educated at Cornell University, Algava completed her MA degree at DePauw University in 1981. Algava’s work is represented in corporate and public collections including General Electric, IBM, Vassar College, Newark Public Library, and various private collections in the U.S., Argentina, and Europe. Among the many awards Ms. Algava received is a Geraldine Dodge Foundation Artist Fellow Award and Best in Show, Printmaking, Ellarslie Open XXV.

Sherri Andrews is a self-taught artist who paints in alcohol inks, watercolor, and acrylics. Sherri was honored to receive the Ben Whitmire Purchase Award from the Ellarslie at Trenton City Museum in May 2018. Her painting Abstract Poppies was purchased for the museum’s permanent collection. The vivid colors and spontaneity of her paintings convey energy and joy.
Her work has been shown at numerous juried exhibit including the West Windsor Art Center’s Member Exhibit, Ellarslie Open 35, and D&R Greenway. Many of her painting have been sold at a Princeton gallery and are held in collections throughout the region.

James Doherty is a contemporary figurative painter located in Lawrenceville, NJ. His home, A 1920s center hall colonial, is also the location of his studio where he paints daily. He spent most of 2016 building a new studio on his property in Lawrenceville. James works in oil and cold wax usually on wood panel. He handicrafts most of his frames. His work is collected throughout the United States and Europe. James believes that a painting should look like it has been painted and not like a photograph. “You should see each brush stroke, each drip of paint and each layer of color.” Many of James’ paintings seem like he captured a moment in time and have a feeling of motion. James’ paintings are often characterized by softened drips, smears or unfinished edges. He Thinks his process should be visually accessible. His favorite painters are Gainsborough, Sargent and Degas.

Maria Maurio is an apparel and textiles designer, an artist, natural dyer, and a chemist. Having grown up in a local family business, she was exposed to the many facets of design as well as salesmanship. Maria went on to study apparel design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City specializing in couture. After a successful career designing for many well know companies in New York City and Philadelphia she opened her atelier in Trenton, New Jersey. Maria creates artisanal quality accessories utilizing hand dyeing, hand block printing and various other resist methods. Partial Arts Camp Scholarship
It’s no secret that children come alive when they work in the arts! Imaginations spark and developing minds thrive. In fact, studies show that high engagement in the arts leads to increased academic achievement, better attendance in school, increased motivation, and higher levels of community engagement. We select applicants for arts scholarships based on financial need, interest in arts participation, and willingness to contribute toward their child’s success in the program. At times, we may also provide lunches, extended day care, or a travel stipend to our scholarship recipients. Many children are referred to us by family members, teachers, or social workers. A donation of $200 will cover half the costs of a week of arts camp at the West Windsor Arts Center.

Sometimes it seems the universe has its own ideas for you. After resisting getting a piano onsite for many years due to space and maintenance issues, a musician friend believed so strongly that we should have one, he offered to find one and pay for its delivery and first tuning. This is where the universe stepped in and bestowed upon us the sweet upright you see here. It was a family heirloom of WWAC's good friend and renowned artist Priscilla Snow Algava. Last fall WWAC held an event in Priscilla's honor and now we have her piano. We plan to use it for recitals, performances, and more.
