Apollo XI Flown To The Moon Kapton

This Kapton foil segment flew to the Moon in July 1969 as part of the Apollo 11 Command Module, Columbiawhich housed Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins during their mission. Following the historic lunar landing and the crew’s splashdown, it was removed from the spacecraft and given to O.W. Nasse, a Rockwell Space Division worker assigned to Apollo 11’s post landing and safety recovery team, in August 1969 and later donated to Buzz Aldrin Ventures.

The pressure-sensitive Kapton polymide foil was used to protect the spacecraft from the extreme environment of outer space, playing the critical role of reflecting the sun's heat off the spaceship.

The foil segment has been paired with an authentically signed photo of Apollo 11 moonwalker Aldrin. The segment and photo have been matted and framed using archival methods.
