Artist Bio- Jim began his fused glass career in 2013 as an intern with CainFusions, a prominent fused glass studio formerly located in Lenexa, Kansas. John and the late Anita Cain, co-owners of the studio, gave Jim the life-changing opportunity for him to learn the art while helping them build inventory for their growing business. As Jims skills developed, the Cains encouraged him to design his own pieces. There were no boundaries; in fact, they encouraged him to go crazy, which he did.
In 2015 Jim opened his own studio, Jim Rice Fused Glass, in Shawnee, Kansas, relocating to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in 2018. His artwork and designs are recognized for their unique and whimsical interpretations of nature and everyday life! Much of Jims artwork is retro in nature, drawing from the 50s, 60s and 70s, with an emphasis on the music of those decades. He is commissioned regularly for custom pieces based on pictures and ideas from clients. Jims work has been shown at Meet the Makers in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Cornerstone Bank and The Gallery at Sun Fest in Holiday Island, Arkansas, the Lenexa (Kansas) Art Fair, the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, and the David Jones Gallery and Musical Theater Heritage VIP Room, both in Kansas City, Missouri. Some of his work is available for sale in Eureka Springs, Arkansas at The Ladybug Emporium and Route 62 General Store. His work is also sold at Kansas Originals Market Gallery in Wilson, Kansas. In 2019, Jim won the Mixed Media Category at the Holiday Island Art Guild 31st Annual Art Show.
Jim is a member of the Holiday Island Art Guild, Post Rock Opportunities Foundation (sponsoring organization of Kansas Originals), InterUrban ArtHouse, and RAW Artists.
